Why Do Government Officials Want to Ban Ham Radio? It’s Already Begun in California

I’ll give you three reasons

1 its a form of communication they can’t control.

2 its near impossible for them to trace, actually requiring boots on the ground.

3. When the shit hits the fan it wont be the internet that connects us it will be Ham Radio

I’m sure I have reposted this before, but this needs to be out there.

Handheld HAM radio kits are around $35 bucks. That’s how much I paid for a Baofeng UV-5R.

Legally, you are required to have a HAM license to broadcast on HAM frequencies. You do not require one to listen to them.

These radios can be programmed with up to 128 channels. And there are websites that show you what frequencies are being used in your area. Including many of the emergency services like Fire and EMS.

Though it is illegal by FCC regulations to use a programmable radio on FRS/GMRS (Cobra/Motorola 2 way frequencies), HAM radios can tune into those same frequencies.

Not to mention you can pick up FM radio and program NOAA channels. And honestly, $35 isn’t a bad price for a well built NOAA radio.

I got my HAM license back in high school. The FCC doesn’t ever make you retest, just continue to confirm “yes, i still want this.”

Might be time for me to pick up a radio again and brush up on my etiquette.
